Iqbal Kuttippuram Biography

Iqbal Kuttippuram is a Malayalam screenwriter best known for his association with veteran Malayalam director Kamal. Their association started with the blockbuster hits – Niram (1999), followed by Meghamalhar (2001) (story only), Gramaphone (2003) and Swapnakoodu (2003), which are regarded as the landmark movies of the director in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Oru Indian Pranayakatha, Arabikatha, 4 the people and Diamond Necklace are his other noted works. He is a homeopathy physician by profession who practises in his own clinic in Dubai. After his successful association with Lal Jose with the movie Diamond Necklace in 2012, he is working on his next project with the same director titled – Vikramadithyan. The movie is slated to get released in 2014 and it includes Unni Mukundan, Dulquar Salmaan, and Namitha Pramod in the lead roles.

He was born in Malappuram in 1970. Since childhood he was passionate in movies and its magic. He loved the film scripts and regularly watched movies. Screenplays of MT Vasudevan Nair, Padmarajan and Srinivasan attracted him most. While doing homeopathy, he wrote one script and approached the film maker Kamal. Later he was invited by the director to complete a few episodes of a television serial – Koodumattam for Doordarshan in 1991.

In the later 1990s, the same director asked him to write a script for a campus oriented movie and it resulted in the blockbuster Niram, starring Kunchakko Boban and Shalini in the pivot roles. The movie was inspired from Bollywood blockbuster – Kuch Kuch Hota hai, based on friendship turned love between two close friends. The movie was later made to Bollywood titled – Tujhe Meri kasam, which marked the debut of real life couple, Genelia D'Souza and Riteish Deshmukh. Since then he has written numerous film scripts, entirely different from one another.
