Indrajit Lankesh Biography

Indrajit Lankesh is an established film director of Kannada at present. He is the son of accomplished writer and journalist - P. Lankesh and currently serves as the publisher of Kannada weekly Tabloid, Lankesh Patrike founded by his father. His sister Gauri Lankesh was the chief editor of this very successful and popular tabloid. Another sister, Kavita Lankesh is an acclaimed film maker who has bagged several International, National and State Awards. He started his career in 2002 and till now has won 2 state awards and one Filmfare.

 

Indrajit is known for introducing many actors to silver screen; the most noted one being the talented actress Lekha Washington and number one actress of Bollywood - Deepika Padukone. Deepika was introduced to the silver screen for the first time by Lankesh, through 2006 movie – Aishwarya (before Om shanti Om happened). The film was a commercial success and one among the best 5 grossers of the year.

 

He was born in Bangalore in 1969. He belongs to a family with members connected to media or cinema. His debut film Thuntata won Karnataka State Film Awards for the Best Debut Director in 2002. The movie was a remake of Karan Johar’s blockbuster hit – Kuch kuch hota hai. His second release was Lankesh Patrike, named after the tabloid founded by his father. His third venture was Monalisa which earned Karnataka State Film Award for Best Director. It was followed by Aishwarya in 2006 which successfully launched actress Deepika Padukone.

 

Though he tried to find his luck in Bollywood with Black Diamond with Shiney Ahuja in the lead, things didn’t finalize and he returned back. Huduga Hudugi, Thunta Thunti and Dev Son of Mudde Gowda are other releases.
