Indra Kumar Biography

Indra Kumar is a popular film maker of Bollywood known for the series of movies – Dil, Beta, Raja, Ishq and Mann. His first four projects – Dil, Beta, Ishq and Raja were big hits. However Mann, released in the year 1999 failed to meet expectations. However the movie was declared semi hit. He has also directed movies – Aashiq, Rishtey, Pyare Mohan, Dhamaal, Double Dhamaal and Masti after year 2000. Except Masti, all his movies flopped at box office and couldn’t repeat the success of his romantic flicks of 90’s. It has been always noticed that he chooses only simple names as film title and in most cases, they have become successful too. He has also directed Simhachalam, a Tamil movie in the year 2003. He has also appeared as a comedian and supporting actor in many Gujarathi movies.

Indra Kumar’s movies have received best film nomination in the year 1990 – Dil, 1992 – Beta and 1995 - Raja. Madhuri Dixit was the leading actress of all these three movies and she has given significant contributions to Indra Kumar’s film career. She has acted in only three movies of Indra Kumar and all these movies are always regarded as the best movies of actress Madhuri Dixit too. She has been nominated in all these movies at Filmfare awards and has won it twice for Dil and Raja. Indra Kumar has also received best director nomination at Filmfare for the movie Beta, with Anil Kapoor, Madhuri Dixit and Aruna Irani in the leading roles. The movie is also remembered for the dhak dhak song of Madhuri.

His first movie was the blockbuster hit – Dil, starring Aamir Khan and Madhuri Dixit in leading roles. This movie is always remembered as the best campus movie and classic comedy during 90’s. His second project with Aamir Khan was also a comedy and smash hit – Ishq released in the year 1997. This movie also starred Juhi Chawla, Kajol and Ajay Devgan. After the shooting of this movie, Juhi and Aamir declared that they will never act together. However except the comedy flick Masti, Indra Kumar’s projects have failed at box office. Dhamaal and Double Dhamaal have been moderate successful at box office.

Now he has announced the sequels of Dhamaal and Masti as Total Dhamaal and Grand Masti and they are scheduled to release this year (2013). He is also producing another movie, Hungama pe hungama with Dia Mirza, Arshad warsi and Amrita Rao in the leading roles. The movie is being directed by Neeraj Vora. Total Dhamaal is the sequel of Dhamaal and Double Dhamaal, where we can see original actors once again on screen.
