Ibrahim Ashk Biography

Ibrahim Khan Gauri, better known as Ibrahim Ashk is an Urdu poet and journalist. He is also associated with Bollywood as a popular lyricist and an actor. As a lyricist he is best known for writing the songs for Hrithik Roshan’s debut flick – Kaho Na Pyar Hai, released in 2000 which earned him a Filmfare nomination for best lyricist. The song which earned him the nomination was “Naa Tum Jaano Naa Hum” sung by Lucky Ali. He also penned the lyrics - "Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai" (title track), "Dil Ne Dil Ko Pukaara" / “Sitaro Kee Mehfil Me Gunjega” for the movie.

 

Ibrahim Khan Gauri was born on July 20, 1951 in Multanpura, Mandsaur of Madhya Pradesh. He writes under the pen name Ashk. His early education was done at Badnagar, and later completed his graduation and master’s in Hindi Literature in 1974 from Indore University. After studies he pursued his professional career as a journalist and has been active in writing. He published his collection of poems – Aagahi in 1996. Associated with both fictional and non-fictional writings, Ilham, Karbala, Andaz-e-Bayan Aur and Tanqidi Shaoor are his published works.

 

He has also written lyrics for more than 1000 songs released as Geet and Ghazals, sung by many popular singers. As a Bollywood lyricist, Kaho na pyar hai – the best musical album of year 2000 is his best work. He also penned lyrics for Hrithik Roshan movies such as Koi Mil Gaya and Aap Mujhe Acche Lagne Lage, apart from Janasheen, Aitbaar, Dhund, Koi Mere Dil Se Pooche etc. As a journalist he has associated with leading magazines like Daily Indore Samachar, Shama and Shushma and Sarita.
