Honey Irani Biography

Honey Irani is a well known screen writer of Bollywood who has won numerous awards. She was the former wife of Javed Akhtar, one of the leading names of the industry as a script writer and lyricist. They have two kids and both are directors of Bollywood. Their son Farhan Akhtar is a very successful actor and director of Bollywood who has shown his versatility as a director through the movies like Dil chahta hai and Don Series and as an actor through Rock on! and Bhaag Milka Bhaag.  Their daughter Zoya Akhtar is too a successful director who has directed the movies like Zindagi na milega dobara and Luck: By chance, in which her brother acted. Javed Akhtar divorced Irani, allegedly due to his relationship with Shabana Azmi and he married Shabana later for which they were criticized also.

Honey is maternal aunt of both Farah Khan and Sajid Khan, the directors of Bollywood. Her sister Daisy Irani was a famous child artist of Bollywood yesterdays. Honey too started her career as a child artist and has worked for movies like Chirag Kahaan Roshni Kahaan and Bombay Ka Chor. She acted in 72 movies before she switched on to her new role as a powerful scriptwriter. She has directed two movies – Arman and Sanju. Arman was released in the year 2003 with Amitabh Bachchan, Anil Kapoor, Preity Zinta and Gracy Singh in leading roles.  But the movie was a flop though its songs and new look of Gracy Singh in glamorous role were noticed.

She often writes film story and its dialogues as well. A few of her noted scripts are Krish, Koi mil gaya, Albela, Kya kehna, Darr, Aina, Jab pyar kise se hota hai, Parampara, Lamhe, Aur pyar ho gaya and Kaho na pyar hai. She has written the scripts of many breakthrough movies of Hrithik’s career including Kaho na pyar hai, Krrish and Koi mil gaya. Now she is working on the script of Krrish 3, that’s scheduled to release this year. She has acted in successful movies like Seeta aur Geeta, Masoom (1960), Kati patang and Amar prem.
