Homi Adajania Biography

Homi Adajania is an Indian film director known for directing critically acclaimed English movie, Being Cyrus, with a lengthy star cast of talented actors like Saif Ali Khan, Naseeruddin Shah, Dimple Kapadia, Boman Irani and Simone Singh. This off-beat English-language psychological drama revolves around a dysfunctional Parsi family and was a commercial hit considering its low budget. His second movie, Cocktail (2012) also casted Saif Ali Khan in lead role aside Deepika Padukone and Diana Penty. It also repeated most of his star cast including Boman Irani and Dimple Kapadia of his debut movie. This movie was a commercial success and noted for the wonderful acting of Deepika. This movie was her real breakthrough role which later was carried forward by her recent success of the year 2013.

Since college days, he was busy with television ads. His father, a retired soldier and the president of the Indian Boxing Federation used to tell him stories since childhood and it made a great impact on Homi’s mind. His father travelled a lot of foreign countries and he used to return back with a lot of stories for young Homi. While being a glorified gofer, he occasionally worked as a model. But when the money earned was not enough for his expenditure, he worked in a petrol pump for about a year in Mumbai. He also did several odd jobs. He is also a C.M.A.S. SCUBA diving Instructor.

A friend narrated him the story of ‘Being Cyrus’ and he instantly decided to make a movie. His second movie was extremely opposite to the first and he reluctantly agreed to this commercial movie. Now he is working on his third project – ‘Finding Fanny’. He is married to Anaita Shroff Adajania, fashion stylist and the Fashion Director of magazine Vogue India. The couple has two children.
