Hemant Joshi Biography

Hemant Joshi is a noted journalist, writer, poet and a Professor of Mass Communication, who has taught Communication, Radio, TV and Hindi journalism for two decades at Indian Institute of Mass Communication and Jamia Millia Islamia, both at New Delhi. A media professional, he has been associated with different types of media and owns a significant experience in various sectors. Famous TV News Reader of Doordarshan Manjari Joshi is his wife and famous writer, journalist and critic of Hindi in the 20th century - Raghuvir Sahay was his father-in-law.

 

He was born on March 27, 1954 in Nainital, Uttarakhand. He holds a Ph. D is Linguistics and B.A. (Honors) in French Language and literature. He also took Diploma in Italian language from JNU (Jawaharlal Nehru University). Later he trained in Broadcast journalism from IIMC and Video journalism from International Institute for the Training of journalists, Budapest, Hungary. He joined Media academics as a faculty in 1969 – a post that he held for long years. He worked as a freelance journalist, writer and professional translator for more than two decades before he got associated with IIMC in 1989.

 

He was associated with IIMC for two decades since 1989 and Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi for three years since 2006. He has worked as a producer for radio programs for several national channels. He also served as News Reader of Doordarshan and All India Radio and occasionally a news editor too. Mahayuddhon ke Aaspaas, Arthat and Asserting Voices are some of his independent published works while he has co-written a few works with his wife - Fundamentals of Journalism and Mass Communication, Communication for Development and Writing for Media.
