Harish Patel Biography

Harish Patel is a film actor associated with Hindi entertainment industry. He appears in Bollywood movies as well as TV shows, and has excelled as a character artist in comic roles. He is also a high acclaimed and well reputed theatre artist, with a lot of experience in this field. He is well known for his catchphrase - gayee bhains paanee mein, in the iconic movie, Mr. India. The movie gave him a big break to his acting career, where he essayed the role of Roopchand. He is associated with films since early 1980s with 1983 movie, Mandi, and has spent more than three-and-a-half decade in the industry. The Buddha of Suburbia, China Gate, Mr India and Run Fat boy Run are among his best roles on big screen.

 

Patel was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland to Indian parents. He was born on 25 November 1950. He began performing at the age of seven, when he appeared for many mythological Hindu plays like Ramayan. He made his film debut in Mandi directed by Shyam Benegal in 1983. Yet he has done only a few films in the decade, and mainly concentrated on to his stage career. His role in Mr. India got appreciated. With 1990s, he became regular in Bollywood films, and also appeared in TV shows.

 

He is known for his long-term association with Satyadev Dubey and worked with him in his theatre productions during the time period, 1994-2008. Satyadev Dubey passed away in 2011. He appeared in western, classical and modern Indian plays, and some of his major works include - The Caretaker, No Exit, Camus' Cross Purpose, The Lesson, and Vatzlav, originally written by western writers. Patel is a life member of the Cine & TV Artists Association of India.
