Hameed Chennamangaloor Biography

Hameed Chennamangaloor is a prominent writer and social critic from Kozhikode, Kerala, who is known as a staunch critic of religious fundamentalism and Political Analyst. Apart from his noted contributions as a teacher he has also authored several books on criticism. He retired as the Head of the Department of English at Government Arts and Science College, Kozhikode in 2003. Prior to his academics career he has worked as a probationary officer with SBI. 'Ivan Njangalude Priya Moideen' is his most recent critic work.

He is also a columnist to leading Malayalam newspapers and frequently gives radio talks on Akashvani. He also appears in television shows for talks related to contemporary issues. 'Ivan Njangalude Priya Moideen' (2015) and Islamic State Aarude Srishtti? (2015) are his recent published works. 'Beegarathayude dhaivashasthram’ and 'Matham, rashtreeyam, janadhipathyam’ and his translation work - Oru Indian Musliminte sothanthra chindhakal are among his major works.

In 2015, he came to limelight when he stated that the love affair between Moideen and Kanchanamala was not at all sincere. He made these statements soon after the big success of Ennu Ninte Moideen, based on the true tragic love story of Moideen and Kanchanamala from Mukkam, Kozhikode. If they were in true love for more than 25 years why they did not marry – asks the critic. He even accused of Kanjanamala’s activities related to Moideen’s memoir. The writer has done his early school education at Mukkam, the place belonging to this beloved pair.

He was born in Chennamangaloor of Kozhikode district in 1948. Areepattamannil Abdul Salam and Katheeshumma are his parents. His early education was done at Chennamangaloor and Mukkam. After post-graduation, though he started his professional career as a probationary officer of SBI, he later took the job under Department of Higher Education. He taught as an English lecturer and professor for many years till his retirement.
