Haidar Ali (actor) Biography

Haidar Ali is an actor and screenwriter associated with Bollywood. He is the son of the first Miss India, the actress Pramila (aka Esther Abrahams) and actor Kumar, who has worked in historic movies like Mughal-e-Azam and Shri 420. Ali, also credited as Hyder Ali and Haider Ali, made his small screen debut in 1986 through the Doordarshan series – Nukkat, which was quite popular those days. He played the character Raja Patel, for the series. His role as Raja - an unemployed vagabond who moves around, smartly dressed in a suit and with an "I know it all" attitude made him popular indeed.

 

Haider co-scripted the epic historical drama film - Jodhaa Akbar, aside its director Ashutosh Gowariker. He was also seen in the song picturisation of Khwaja Mere Khwaja, one of the most popular songs of the movie. As an actor he has appeared in movies like Phir phi dil hai Hindustani, Khoobsurat, Daira, Chalte Chalte, Kismat Konnection, Khoya Khoya Chand, Main Zinda Hoon, Baazi etc. This actor is known for his association with directors – Aziz Mirza, Kundan Shah and Saeed Akhtar Mirza and has regularly appeared in their movies since Doordarshan days. He worked with Aziz Mirza and Kundan Shah for his maiden serial, Nukkad, followed by ‘Circus’ for Saeed Akhtar Mirza. Haider has also worked with Shah Rukh Khan for movies like Phir phi dil hai Hindustani.

 

He was born on born February 16, 1948 to the Bollywood actors, Kumar and Pramila. Haider started his Bollywood career in the early 1980s and has appeared in bit roles for movies like Saaransh, Main Zinda Hoon etc. He gained attention through Doordarshan serials and with mid-1990s, he became a regular actor in Bollywood with character roles.
