H. Vasanthakumar Biography 
H. Vasanthakumar is an active politician, philanthropist and entrepreneur from Nagercoil. He is better known as the founder and owner of Vasanth& Co, a chain dealer of consumer electronics and home appliances in Tamil Nadu and Vasanth TV, a Tamil channel. He has won Tamil nadu state assembly elections in the year 2006 against S. P. Sooryakumarof AIADMK. His television channel was launched in the year 2008. His son, Vijay Vasanth is a film actor who has appeared in movies like Chennai 600028, Naadodigal and Kanimozhi. In 2006, he released with auto-biographical work, VetrikodiKattu and the book was released by Rajinikanth and his wife.
He was born in 14 April 1950 in Agastheeswaram near Nagercoil. He holds a post-graduation degree in Tamil from Madurai Kamaraj University. In his family, he is the first generation of businessmen. As he wanted to do something different he reached Chennai after studies, where he took up a job with VGP in the year 1970. He worked there till 1978. He started the company, Vasant and Co in 1978, which now has branched to more than 55 showrooms across Tamil Nadu. He started the venture canvassing on his cycle from one home to another and collected money for his nascent chit business. Now the company attained a turnover of 500 crore Indian rupees in 2007 and is now regarded as one of the major dealers of consumer electronics and home appliances in Tamil Nadu.
His satellite television channel Vasant TV was launched by Sonia Gandhi. This satellite channel was launched at the same time when former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi's Kalaingar TV and senior Congress leader and former Union minister K V Thangabalu’s Mega TV were started. With this launch, all major political parties in Tamil Nadu owned a satellite TV channel.
Vasanthakumar died on 28 August 2020 at the Apollo Hospitals in Chennai, of complications from COVID-19.
