Gulshan Kumar Biography

Gulshan Kumar was the founder of the T-Series music label (Super Cassettes Industries Ltd.) He was a successful Bollywood producer also who has delivered musical hit Aashique in the year 1990. Through this single movie, Kumar Sanu and Anuradha Paudwal emerged as the top singers of 90’s. Not only that, it was through the movie Aashique, Nadeem Shravam became the top music directors of Bollywood. After the release of Aashique, a trendsetter movie, T-Series also reached new heights under Gulshan Kumar. He was shot dead in a Hindu temple in Jeet Nagar, Andheri West suburb of Mumbai in the year 1997 when T-Series was at the top of the musical world. Nadeem of Nadeem Shravan was accused of having paid for the assassination. Nadeem didn’t return back to India. Though he, along with Shravan has delivered numerous tunes after that, slowly their career degenerated. More sad part is that, the success of Nadeem’s life happened only due to this director who gave him plenty of opportunities during his struggling time.

 

Gulshan Dua was born into a Punjabi Hindu family as the son of a fruit seller, Chandrabhan. Later through his hard work, he achieved great heights and became a top business man of the country. His career started in the Darya Ganj market in Delhi where his father was a fruit seller when his family acquired a shop selling records and cheap audio cassettes and slowly Gulshan built his vast empire of cassettes through his hard work and dedication. He is also known for releasing infinite Hindu devotional albums under T-Series of which Anuradha Paudwal’s songs are most popular. She emerged as the top singer of early 90’s that she signed a record with T-series delivering the most memorable film and non-film songs of her career.

 

He has appeared in many musical albums as a presenter.  In the albums, Chal Kanvaria Shiv Ke Dham and Shiv mahima, he appeared as well. Gulshan has directed the movie Bewafa Sanam (1995) and acted as its producer as well. A few more movies as a producer include - Shabnam (1995), Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin (1991), Aashiqui (1990), Bahar Aane Tak (1990) and Satyanarayan Ki Virat Katha (1995).  He was assassinated on August 12, 1997. On 9 January 2001, Vinod Jagtap (known as "Raja") confessed to being the assassin and was given life sentence imprisonment.  

 

Playback singer Tulsi Kumar is his daughter. T-series is now run by his son Bhushan Kumar.
