The 14-hour encounter was lively telecasted on television. He joined the Shiv Sena in 1996. However he was killed while appearing a court case at Ulhasnagar in 2000.

Rajwani began his career selling pappads in Ulhasnagar. He met gangster Govind Vachani and joined his group and rose to fame in the crime world very soon. He joined hands with criminal-politician from Ulhasnagar, Pappu Kalani. Both were accused of murdering editor A V Narayan of Blitz magazine and Gopal was arrested in 1982. But he got released as no witness came forward to testify. In 1985 following a dispute over money, he fell out with Pappu Kalani. By that time Pappu has already become an influential politician of Indian national congress.

Once he came to power from Ulhasnagar, he arrested Rajwani in an extortion case. On the way to the Vithalwadi police station, he was attacked by men arranged by Pappu. Seriously injured he was admitted to the JJ Hospital. However he survived. Here, he met Haji Mastan who protected him and helped him to go Dubai making all arrangements. He met Dawood Ibrahim at Dubai and helped him in buying real estate in Mumbai, which included a flat at The Lokhandwala Complex.

In April 1989, the Kalani family leader Dudhichand Kalani was murdered resulting in bloodshed between the gangs. While Pappu was arrested for the murder of Maruthi Jadhav, Rajwani’s henchman in 1992, Rajwani then returned to Ulhasnagar and joined Shiv Sena. He emerged as a top leader of the party in Ulhasnagar. On January 24, 2000, while he was to attend court at the First Class Magistrate's court in Ulhasnagar, he was shot down by four men. It’s widely believed that it was done by none other than Pappu, who emerged as a successful politician later.
