Gireesh Puthenchery Biography 
Gireesh Puthenchery was a very popular lyricist of Malayalam cinema who gave significant contributions to the era of 90’s and 2000’s. He has won Kerala state awards numerous times and met with an unfortunate death when he was at the peak of his career at the age of 50. Till now, that void is not filled yet and film fraternities miss this talented lyricist a lot. He has won Kerala state awards for best lyricist 7 years and he holds a unique record for winning it consecutively for 4 years from 2001 to 2004. In a career spanning to about 20 years, he wrote lyrics for about 1556 songs in about 328 Malayalam films. Happy Husbands, released on January 14, 2010, was his last film.
He has won Kerala state awards for the first time in the year 1995 for his powerful lyrics of Agnidevan, Aksharanakshatrangal. He won it for the last time in 2004 for Kathavasesham. In between, he won it 5 times in the 8 years – indeed an unparallel record. Those movies include – Ravana prabhu, Nandanam, Punaradhivasam, Krishnagudiyil oru pranaya kaalathu and Gaurishankaram.
Gireesh was born to Pulikkal Krishna Panicker and Meenakshiyamma in Puthenchery near Ulliyeri village in Kozhikode district. His father was an astrologer and his mother, a Carnatic musician. His career began with the 1988 film Chakravaalathinappuram. After that he delivered numerous hit songs and has worked with almost all music directors including Vidya Sagar, Raveendran and Johnson. He is a script writer and story writer too. He has written the screenplays of Brahmarakshassu, Pallavur Devanarayanan and Vadakkumnadhan. Vadakkumnadhan, released in the year 2006 is one among the last works of Gireesh as well as Ravindran. All the songs, purely worked on ragas always remain as classics of Malayalam cinema. All the songs became huge hits too, particularly, ‘Kalabham tharaam’. He has written the story for Malayalam movies - Kinnaripuzhayoram, Meleparambil Aanveedu and Kerala House Udan Vilpanakku.
He has written numerous songs pictured on Mohan lal. His most popular movies are Johnny walker, Devasuram, Ekalavyan, vadakkum Nathan, Gauri shankaram, Thenmavin Kombath, Maanathe kottaram, Ishthamanu Nooruvattom, Kaana kinavu, Oru Yathramozhi , Ore kadal, Maya mayooram, Oru Maravathoor Kanavu , nakshatra tharattu, Niram, Arayannangalude veedu, Raavana prabhu, Raakkili paattu, Chinthavishtayaya Shyamala, Pravachakan, kaashmeeram and Minnaminunginum Minnukettu.
