Gingger Shankar Biography 
Gingger Shankar is an Indian-American musician and singer. She plays multiple musical instruments. Passion of the Christ and Circumstance are her memorable compositions, which received multiple awards and nominations. She inherited music as her tradition and belongs to the fourth generation of artists of Uday Shankar’s family. Her grandmother Lakshmi Shankar was married to Rajendra Shankar, brother of legendary sitarist Ravi Shankar and contemporary dancer Uday Shankar. Thus she is related to a great art family. Lakshmi has also performed with Uday Shankar’s troupe. Born to famous musicians Dr. L. Subramaniam and Viji Subramaniam, famous Bollywood playback singer Kavitha Krishnamoorty is her step-mother.
She was born into a family with strong connections with dance and music. Gingger is born to leading Indian artists, Dr. L. Subramaniam – a famous violinist and late Viji Subramaniam, a leading classical singer. She was born in Los Angeles. She was raised in both Los Angeles and India. Famous vocalist Lakshmi Shankar was her maternal grandmother. She lost her mother at a younger age. Later her father remarried Kavitha Krishnamoorty, a leading playback singer of Bollywood. Her elder brother Dr. Narayana Subramaniyam is a poet and ghazal singer.
She started learning music, dance and violin at a younger age. She attended the Kalakshetra creative arts school in Chennai. She took advanced learning in music instruments, and she learnt violin, cello and piano. She started her professional career at the age of 14. She was introduced to the film field in 2004 with the Hollywood film, The Passion of the Christ. Apart from rendering her voice she also performed violin for its music score. Since then she has contributed to many Hollywood films such as The Forbidden Kingdom, Circumstance, Charlie Wilson's War etc. She has performed in numerous festivals across the globe.
