George. M. Thomas Biography

George. M. Thomas is a veteran politician from Kayanna belonging to Kozhikode district. He belongs to Communist Party of India (Marxist) and is currently a Member of the Legislative Assembly of Kerala from Thiruvambady. In 2016 state assembly elections he defeated V.M. Ummer of IUML by a narrow margin of 3008 votes. He joined CPI (M) in 1980, and has served as branch secretary, local secretary, and area secretary of the party, before moving to state level party.

He was born in a rural village, Kelothu Vayal in Kayanna of Kozhikode district. He was born on 22 March 1955 into a Christian middle-class family. Thomas and Annamma are his parents and he is married to Anice since 1976. The couple is blessed with two children, one son and one daughter, and both are settled with their family life now. He was born into a big family with 8 siblings, three brothers and five sisters. His school education was done at his native village and he completed SSLC from St. George's High School, Kulathuvayal. Then he moved to Mysore to pursue his graduation. Though he joined St. Philomina's College in Mysore he couldn’t complete his graduation.

His active participation in politics began after his marriage, when he joined Kisan sabha and KSYF in 1977. He served as the vice-president Kodiyathur Panchayat before he became a full-time active member of CPI (M) in 1980. Since then he has been associated with the party for more than three and a half decades. He has served as Party secretary in branch level for many years. He currently serves as district joint secretary, and is MLA of Thiruvambady constituency. He has earlier too served as an MLA of same constituency.
