Geetanjali Thapa Biography

Geetanjali Thapa is a National award winning film actress. She won the National Film Award for Best Actress for her performance in Liar's Dice, announced most recently in April 2014. Liar’s Dice is the first full-length movie directed by Malayalam film actress, Geetu Mohandas which has already won several national and international awards. Geetanjali belongs to Sikkim and has been a model in Kolkata before reaching movies. She was the winner of the Mega Miss North East 2007 beauty pageant held at Guwahati. While at school, she made her onscreen debut through Myth (2006).

 

Thapa finished her schooling in Sikkim and graduation from Kolkata, where she started modelling. For future studies, she moved to Delhi. She didn’t take any formal training in acting. She was offered a film role opposite Ranvir Shorey and she moved to Mumbai. But the movie never happened. Though heart broken, she met a few people who introduced her to casting directors and coordinators. She started giving auditions for movies and ads. She happened to hear about a new movie, directed by Kamal K. M and gave its auditions. She was selected for the role and I.D got released in 2012. For the same role, she received two international awards for best actress — at the Los Angeles Film Festival and the Madrid Film Festival.

 

In 2013, her two movies got released - Monsoon Shootout and one short film, That Day After Every day directed by Anurag Kashyap and in both these movies she played supporting roles. Monsoon Shootout was premiered at Cannes Film festival. Critically acclaimed movie, Liar's Dice is the milestone movie of her career. Not only does this movie premiered at many film festivals, she also received National award for best actress – 2014.
