Gayatri Iyer Biography

Gayatri Iyer, also known as Gayatri Ganjawala is a playback singer of Hindi cinema. She is the wife of famous playback singer Kunal Ganjawala. Her most popular tracks are – My dil goes hmmm of Salaam Namaste, Mohabbat hai mirchi of Chura liya hai tumne, Rabba rabba of Jurm, Rak rak of Ridrash, Pyaar Ki Kahani of Honeymoon travels private limited, Shikdum of Dhoom, So right of Roadside Romeo, Zindagi Hai Dua of Dil ne jise apna kaha, Maar gayo re of Sandhya, Berang Zindagi of Naach, Yeh sard and Bhoot hai yahan of Bhoot, Chain khuli ki mein of Mast and Remixed version of old song – Choti si umar mein lag gaya rog.

 

As a playback singer she debut with Telugu movie Ghulabi in the year 1995. Her first Hindi song was from the movie Loafer released in the year 1996, starring Anil Kapoor and Juhi Chawla. The song was a duet with Shankar Mahadevan – Tere dil ne. Same year, a few more songs of Gayatri were released in Hindi. One among those tracks, she sung a duet again with Shankar Mahadevan. The song was ‘Hum Tumko Chahenge’ of the movie Dhaanveer. She sung for Mithun Chakraborthy-Ayesha Jhulka starrer Muquaddar too, in the same year.

 

She sang for a few less known tracks during late 90’s and early 2000’s. Her work also went gone unnoticed. It was through the item number of ‘Chura liya hai tumne’, that Gayatri became popular. The movie released in the year 2003 starred Zayed Khan and Esha Deol. The movie was a big flop, but the Mirchi song was a chartbuster hit and the top song of the movie. It was through this particular song, item girl Rakhi Sawant gained fame as an item girl. Nothing remained in the minds of audience except the song - Mohabbat hai mirchi! The big break was given to Gayatri by Himesh Reshmayiya.

 

Same year, a few more songs released. A few were noted where some went unnoticed. Beimaan Mohabbat of Ek and ek gyarah, Yeh sard and Bhoot hai yahan of Bhoot and Dildara of Chupke se were released in the year 2004. Then Gayathri became a known singer of Bollywood, and she has sung songs for hit movies like Dhoom, Kya cool hai hum, Bride and Prejudice, Road side romeo and Salaam Namaste.
