Gaurav Mazumdar Biography

One of the most versatile musicians Gaurav Mazumdar of India born in 1972 in Allahabad in the family of Dulal Mazumdar who is a popular musician himself. Gaurav began his journey in musical world with vocal music but soon shifted to violin to be trained by his learned uncle Shri J.D.Mazumdar, father Dulal Mazumdar, Kamala Bose, Jayashree Roy and Pandit Nandkishore Vishwakarma. Gaurav soon mastered the art of playing violin and went on to enhance his musical abilities as he studied playing the sitar from Pundit Ravi Shankar the greates Sitar player and under the guidance of maestro Gaurav became a complete sitar player. 

Gaurav has the honor of participating and performing in front of the vast audiences at various musical events including at Gunidas Music Festival - Sankat Mochan -Varanasi, New Delhi, Saptak Festival - Ahmadabad, Soorya Festival - Trivandrum,  World Music Festival - Rome, Queen Elizibeth Hall - London, Perth International Festival - Australia, Kijaani Festival - Kenya, and Metropolitan Museum - New York to name a few. He has been constantly traveling and performing in Europe, Asia, Australia, Africa and United States of America. He has honor of performing on several occasions with Pt. Ravi Shankar the ultimate in Sitar playing art. 

He has been performing his solo shows in combination of some of the best tabla players including Pt. Kishan Maharaj, Anindo Chatterjee, Jayanto Bose, Bikram Ghosh Jugalbandis (duets) Kumar Bose with both north-indian and south-Indian musicians including Lalgudi G.J.R Krishnan, Jayanti Kumaresh, Chitraveena Ravikiran and Flute Shashank. Gaurav Mazumdar has composed music for film, 'Shwet' directed by Kanchan Ghosh in 2011 that has been screened at several film festivals in India and abroad. 

Gaurav has also composed and performed with the English Chamber Orchestra, composed music for the ballet 'Siddhartha' a book by Nobel Award winner Hermann Hesse. Gaurav has the honor of composing a raga with title 'Akanksha' for his the holy concert at the Vatican City at new millennium celebration, incidentally he was the first Indian musician to achieve this feet of performing at the Vatican. Gaurav describes his performance with Pt. Ravi Shankar almost two decades ago as the turning point of his life.  fortnight, his dream comes true.
