Garima Chaudhary Biography
Garima Chaudhary is an Indian sportswoman who plays the game of judo. She represented India in the 2012 London Olympics in the Women’s 63 kg category.
Garima Chaudhary was born in a middle class family on 2nd April 1990 in Meerut in India. His father’s name is Rajender Choudhary. He is a local transport businessman and her mother’s name is Satesh Chaudhary. Her father did not like her interest in sports and was more concerned about her studies. But her mother was very supportive to her interest in sports.
Her uncle is a local hockey coach and some of her cousins are in the national level boxing. This made her take an interest in the game of judo. She was representing her native state Uttar Pradesh initially but could not get support from the authorities and so she started representing the state of Haryana in the national level competitions.
She joined the National Institute of Sports in her age of 14 in 2004 and was trained by Jiwan Sharma and Divya Sharma. She could not get any privilege of being a woman and so she had to practice with the boys. She left her home to be trained at Patiala Sports Authority of India. However she was able to get good training and could enhance her skills and strengths.
She contested at the 2011 World Judo Championships held at Paris in France and at 2012 Asian Judo Championships at Tashkent in which she got 7th place in 63 kg category. Her good performance in these two contests made her eligible to represent India at the London Olympics.
She got training at Germany and France to face the Olympics. However she was eliminated in the first round in Women 63 kg category at the 2012 London Olympics by Yoshie Ueno thus ending her dream for an Olympic medal.
