Gajananrao Joshi Biography 
Gajananrao Joshi was a popular vocalist and a renowned violinist of Hindustani music. He has received so many prestigious music awards throughout his music journey. Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1972, ITC Sangeet Research Academy award in 1982 and Tansen Samman given by the Government of Madhya Pradesh in 1985 are the major honours received by him. He was affectionately called Gajananbuwa Joshi. He is the son of Anant Manohar Joshi, a distinguished khayal singer.
Joshi was born in a musical family on 30 January 1911 as the son of Anant Manohar Joshi, a distinguished khayal singer and disciple of Balakrishnabuwa Ichalkaranjikar. Gajananbuwa studied Hindustani music of Gwalior gharana under his father. He also learnt from Vazebuwa of Gwailor Gharana, Vilyat Hussein Khan from Agra gharana and Bhurji Khan from Jaipur-Atrauli gharana. He also learnt musical instrument Tabla from Pandit Vinayakrao Ghangrekar. He became a proficient Hindustani vocalist at the age of 20. His grasping power too was very quick that, in those days Kesarbai Kerkar did not like to have him attend her concerts.
He worked as music professor at University of Mumbai in 1970. He also worked as a Music Advisor to All India Radio from 1956 to 1968 at Mumbai, Indore and Lucknow Radio Stations. Madhukar Joshi, Vikas Kashalkar, Ulhas Kashalkar, Kaushalya Manjeshwar, Shubhada Paradkar, Veena Sahasrabuddhe, Jayashree Patnekar, Padma Talwalkar, and Shridhar Parsekar are his noted disciples. His children, Malini, Manohar, Madhukar and Narayan are also trained musicians. He has published his compositions for Violin and autobiography in the form of books. He has participated in almost all the major music conferences, festivals and events all over India. He passed away in the year 1987.
