Esmayeel Shroff Biography

Esmayeel Shroff is a Bollywood filmmaker who was mostly active in the era of 1980s. He is best known for the crowd puller - ThodisiBewafaii released in 1980 which starred superstar Rajesh Khanna, ShabanaAzmi and PadminiKohlapure in lead roles. Agar - If, God and Gun, AhistaAhista, Zid, Police Public, Majhdhaar, DilAkhirDilHai, Tarkieb, Bulundi, Nischay, Surya and JhutaSach are some of his other releases, which received mixed reviews from critics and moderate response from audience. He worked as Assistant Director to famous film director BheemSingh before marking his debut as an independent director. 

S.V.Ismail is his real name and he belongs to Andhra Pradesh. He was born on August 12, 1960 in Kurnool to a gold merchant.He graduated in sound engineering from National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli and advanced studies at NIT, Srinagar. But he decided to pursue his dreams and moved to Mumbai.

Esmayeel Shroff started his professional career in the 1970s associated with television. He also joined Bheem Singh as his assistant and worked for a short period in the 1970s. ThodisiBewafaii released in 1980 was his first hit work as a Bollywood film director. The movie was scripted by his brother, MoinUd Din Shroff and Shroff is still known for this massive family hit. After ThodisiBewafaii, he experimented with different genres of film scripts, though not equally successful. Agar- If, Love 86 and Police Public, God and Gun, andZid are some of his noted hits in the 1980s. Agar-if scripted by his brother was a huge hit.
