East Coast Vijayan Biography 
East Coast Vijayan is a Malayalam lyricist who played a major role in popularizing Malayalam pop albums since late 1990s. He along with music composer Balabhaskar has been credited to giving major changes in the private album industry of Malayalam. A pioneer of non-filmy Malayalam music, Vijayan mostly pens romantic songs which are well recognized by music lovers. Vijayan and Balabhaskar duo can be regarded as the trendsetters of Malayalam private album scene, and their first association Ninakkai in 1998 broke several album selling records. His name is synonymous with the romantic audio albums and music video industry in Malayalam.
His real name is Karikkathil Vasupillai Surendran Pillai or simply K. V. Surendran Pillai. He hails from Malamel, Kollam. He introduced the non-film songs culture in Kerala, and also released several music videos of "Mappilappattukal" of Malabar. But he shot to fame through the romantic songs he contributed to Malayalam. The music albums - Ninakkai, Aadyamai, Ormakkai, Swantham, Iniennum and Ennennum belongs to the romantic series which captured the minds of young generations through the romantic songs. He also introduced several talented artists to the entertainment field.
Ninakkay Thozhi Punarjanikkam sung by Biju Narayanan from his debut album – Ninakkai in 1998 was a huge hit. Aadhyamai, composed by Balabhaskar was his second album released in 1999. Iniyarkkum Arodum sung by K. J. Yesudas belonging to the album was a chartbuster. His third album, Ormakkai released in 2001 is his most successful album up-to-date. Ormakkai Iniyoru Snehageetham sung by Yesudas and Chitra is still loved by music lovers. He also directed three Malayalam movies – Novel (2008), Mohabbath (2011) and My Boss (2012). In 2015 he produced the Malayalam film starring Jayasurya – Jilebi.
