E. P. Jayarajan Biography

E. P. Jayarajan is a veteran politician from Kerala belonging to Communist Party of India (Marxist). He currently serves as Minister for Sports and Industry under the new Kerala Cabinet led by Pinarayi Vijayan. He took oath as Sports minister on 25 May 2016. He got elected to state assembly in 2016 Assembly elections from Mattanur constituency. In 2006, he came to spotlight with Deshabhimani Bribery case, and in 2016 for his comments on Boxing legend, Muhammad Ali.

Jayarajan, Kerala’s sports minister is currently the trending person on social media, after a video, in which he pays tribute to the legendary American boxer Muhammad Ali, went viral on Saturday, June 4. In his live phone conversation with a news anchor of Manorama News TV channel, he commented that Muhammad Ali was a prominent sportsperson from Kerala who brought many international gold medals and made Kerala proud. This shocking condolence message by the newly elected Sports minister of Kerala is trending on net right now, and trolls and memes are being shared in social media in explosive manner. Some trolls even state that he is the replacement of former Congress minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, who was often in news and has been always a ‘troll favourite’ for mispronouncing names of celebrities.

He hails from Irinave of Kannur district. He was born on 28 May 1950. He was the first All India President of D.Y.F.I. He serves as General Manager of Deshabhimani Newspaper daily, the mouthpiece of Communist party. In 2006, soon after LDF came into power under the leadership of V. S. Achuthanandan, he was removed from the post when reports of Deshabhimani Newspaper bribery came out. It was alleged that the newspaper took 2 crores as bribery from controversial lottery promoter Santiago Martin, who is embroiled in several cases. But after a few months he was re-installed to the same position.
