E. A. S. Prasanna Biography

E. A. S. Prasanna is a former Indian cricket player. He was a right handed batsman and right arm off break spin bowler. He is the member of the Indian spin quartet. He was born on 22nd May 1940 in Bangalore. His full name is Erapalli Anantharao Srinivas Prasanna.

 

He studied at National Institute of Engineering in Mysore. His Test debut was at Madras in the year 1961 against England. His first tour abroad was to West Indies which was not successful for him and he did not play in any other match for about five years. He went on to complete his engineering degree and returned back to play cricket in 1967.

 

His excellent performance in 1967 against England gave him a place in the Indian team. He had played 49 Test matches scoring 735 runs and 189 wickets and 235 first class cricket matches scoring 2476 runs and 957 wickets. His best bowling was 8 wickets for 76 runs in Test match.

 

He served as the captain of the Karnataka team that played in the Ranji Trophy. He toured Pakistan in 1978 and retired after that. His marvelous control and spinning in a classic high loop won him many fans. His balls would bounce higher than expected most of the time.

 

He got an offer from ICL to join as a referee in 2007. He accepted the offer from BCCI in 2009. He wrote his autobiography named One More Over.  He received Padma Shri Award from Government of India in 1970, Arjuna Award in 1967 and Castrol Lifetime Achievement Award in 2006.
