Dinesh Baboo Biography

Dinesh Baboo is a film director, cinematographer, producer, actor and screenwriter who works in Malayalam and Kannada movies. He is most popular with Kannada film industry and as a director he owns a few blockbuster hits in Kannada. In 1988, his debut movie as a director, Suprabhatha earned him Filmfare Award for Best Director (Kannada). The following year, his name was entered in Guinness Book of world records for the fastest completion of an Indian film. Born as a Keralite, he has been associated with Malayalam film industry as a noted cinematographer. Blockbuster Malayalam hits like Dhruvam and Commissioner give credit to Baboo as a cinematographer. He debut big screen with ‘Accident’ directed by Ramesh Aravind.

Dinesh Baboo belongs to Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. He started his career as a cinematographer and Dhruvam, King, Ullasa Poonkattu and all-time blockbuster - Commissioner (1994) which placed actor Suresh Gopi as superstar of Malayalam cinema. He has also directed one movie, Mazhavillu, known for its foreign locations. Though its music was a hit, people didn’t accept its theme and movie starring Vineeth, Kunchakko Boban and Preeti Jhangiani was a box office failure.

Before becoming a successful cinematographer of Malayalam film industry, he has already fame as a director in Kannada cinema. He debut Kannada with thriller Idu Saadhya in 1989 which was a box office hit.  This movie with moderate budget was shot at a single location within 48 hours which set Guinness world record of fastest completion of an Indian film. The movie itself became a trend setter because of its brilliant direction, screenplay and cinematography. Suprabhatha with Vishnuvardhan and Suhasini was another major hit. Ondu Kshanadalli and Mathond Madhuvena are his recent releases as a director.
