Dilip Joshi Biography

Dilip Joshi is a successful television actor most known for comic roles. He became a household name with the comic series of SAB TV - Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah where he played husband’s role of Disha Vakani. Disha and Dilip’s chemistry was well received by audience and currently it’s one of the top rated comedy serials of Indian television. He plays the character of Jethalal Champaklal Gada in this series. ‘Kya Baat Hai’ is another popular serial of Joshi where he played the role of a Tamil accountant. He has also appeared in many Gujarati plays. He has also appeared in character roles in blockbuster movies of Rajsree productions - Maine Pyaar Kiya and Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!.

 

Joshi was born on May 26, 1965 in Porbandar. He started his career as a theatre artist for Gujarati. Bapu Tame Kamaal Kari with Sumeet Raghavan and Amit Mistry is one of his earliest noted plays. He, along with Sumeet Raghavan and Amit Mistry forms a magical trio that has appeared in television serial Shubh Mangal Savadhan also. Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah was his big break to Indian television. Other noted serials include - Kabhi Yeh Kabhi Woh, CID, FIR, Hum Sub Ek Hain, Shubh Mangal Savdhan, Yeh Duniya Hai Rangeen, Meri Biwi Wonderful and Agadam Bagdam Tigdam.

 

Joshi has appeared in Hindi movies like - Hun Hunshi Hunshilal, Yash, Firaaq, Maine Pyaar Kiya, What’s your rashee, Humraaz, Dil hai tumhara, Khiladi 420, One 2 ka 4, Phir bhi dil hai Hindustani, Don Muthu Swami, Dhoondte Reh Jaaoge and Hum Aapke Hain Koun. He has received multiple awards and nominations for his single role in Tarak Metha Ka Oolta Chashma. A few of them include - The Global Indian Film and TV Honours, Apsara Awards, Indian telly awards and BIG Star Entertainment Awards.
