Dilip Dsouza Biography

Dilip D’Souza is an accomplished author and Mumbai based journalist. His columns on social and political causes regularly appears in leading prints like Outlook, Mid-Day, Hindustan Times, Rediff.com, The Sunday Observer etc. He has written books about Binayak Sen (The Curious Case of Binayak Sen), his road trips around the US (Roadrunner: An Indian Quest in America), Narmada dams controversy (The Narmada Dammed: An Inquiry into the Politics of Development) and many more socially relevant subjects. He writes a fortnightly mathematics column, “A Matter of Numbers”, for Mint. He has been a member of editorial board of Humanscape and the consumer magazine Keemat. He regularly writes on his blog, "Death Ends Fun” as well.

 

He is the son of Maharashtra Chief Secretary and activist J. B. D'Souza. His mother’s name is Neela. He completed BE in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from BITS Pilani in 1981 and MS in IT from Brown University, 1984. He worked in US since 1981 as an IT professional and returned to India in 1992, so that he could completely concentrate on his literal career. He married Vibha Kamat, a French teacher in 1993 and the couple has two kids.

 

For many years, he has given regular lectures to journalism students at the Xaviers’ Institute of Communication in Mumbai. Roadrunner: An Indian Quest in America and The Curious Case of Binayak Sen are his recent published books. Apart from literal and journalist career, he is also associated with activities of social causes. He held a travel writing workshop at the Kala Ghoda Festival in February 2012, which was well received. Apart from writing, tennis and photography are his other hobbies.
