Dheerendra Gopal Biography

Dheerendra Gopal is a popular Kannada actor associated with films and theatre. Known as a popular character artist of the industry he excelled in the roles of villain and comedian for Kannada movies and theatre. His perfect dialogue delivery makes him a distinct personality of film industry. His dialogue on political satire is an instant hit in Karnataka and has been released as cassettes. Puttanna Kanagal's "Paduvarahalli Pandavaru" was one of his major breakthroughs. Subhadra Kalyana, Gajapathi Garvabhanga, Simha Jodi, Naga Kala Bhairava, Nanjundi Kalyana, and Annaiah are among his noted releases. He has appeared in over 180 films and 100 plays. He died of jaundice on the Christmas day, 2000. Nannavalu Nannavalu was his last release.

Dheerendra Gopal was born in Hassan of Karnataka. He was first spotted by great theater personality Gubbi Veeranna. Gubbi was impressed by his mono act performance at school. Gubbi, known for giving break to theater artists, invited Gopal also to join his theatre company. He was offered the title role of Yechchama Nayaka by Gubbi, and there was no turning back after that. Dheerendra Gopal went on to appear in more than 100 plays. Karnataka Nataka Academy Award and the Rajyotsava Award are the major honours received by him.

Naagarahaavu was his first Kannada film, which starred Vishnuvardhan and Aarathi in the lead roles. His first break to films was given by Puttanna Kanagal and he played the minor role of Thukaram in the movies. Gopal went on to feature in around 180 Kannada films later, and was also associated with theater. Tippu Sultan and Mudukana Maduve are his most popular theatre roles. His dialogues on political satires are very popular. He was attacked by a severe jaundice in 1999 which took his life away the following year. He was aged 59. He was survived with his wife and three children.
