Dharmendra Biography

Dharmendra is an Indian actor who appeared in Hindi film industry. He has acted in nearly 250 films in Hindi language and has won many awards for his acting talent. He got the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award for his contributions in the year 1997. As he has starred in many action films, he is called as Action King.

 

He was born on 8th December 1935 in a Punjabi Sikh family in Phagwara in Punjab. His parents are Kewal Kishan Singh Deol and Satwant Kaur. He spent his childhood days at Sahnewal in Ludhiana. He was elected from Bikaner constituency as the member of 14th Lok sabha as a BJP candidate. He got Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to Hindi film industry at the IIFA 2007 awards.

 

He married Prakash Kaur when he was 19 in the year 1954. Again he married actress Hema Malini. They fell in love with each other during the suiting of the film Sholay. He had two sons Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol and two daughters, Ijeeta and Ajeeta from his first marriage.He had two daughters, Esha Deol and Ahana Deol with Hema Malini. He also had romantic relationship with the actress Meena Kumari.

 

He won the Filmfare new talent award. He had worked in many black and white films in the 1960s and he was also cast as an action hero from 1974 onwards. He had worked in many films such as Soorat Aur Seerat, Bandini, Anpadh, Pooja Ke Phool, Saira Banu, Ayee Milan Ki Bela, Kaajal, Poornima, Phool Aur Paththar, etc.

 

His performance in the film Phool Aur Paththari won him Filmfare nomination in the Best Actor category. He paired with Meena Kumari, Mumtaz, Asha Parekh, Rekha, Zeenat Aman, Sharmila Tagore and Hema Malini. He has worked with many directors like Yash Chopra, Bimal Roy, Raj Khosla, Ramesh Sippy, Anil Sharma, Rajkumar Santoshi, etc.

 

He also played the part of the judge in the popular reality show India’s Got Talent. He won Filmfare award for Best Film Producer for the film Ghayali and Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the Indian Cinema in 1997. He was nominated for Filmfare award for six times.
