Dharmaraj Cheralathan Biography

Dharmaraj Cheralathan is an Indian Kabaddi player from Tamil Nadu, who serves as defender to his team. He is a member of National Kabaddi team, and has represented his country in Kabaddi World Cup in 2016, which won a gold medal. He was the only player from his state, who represented the winning national team. Currently he is associated with Pro Kabaddi League. Previously associated with the teams/clubs - Telugu Titans, Bengaluru Bulls, Patna Pirates, Puneri Paltan and U Mumba, this season he plays for Dabang Delhi.

 

Dharmaraj Cheralathan was born on 21 April 1975 into a farmer’s family in Tamil Nadu. He has three siblings. Since younger days, he worked in fields along with his brothers and farming is an integral part of their daily life. His brother, D. Gopu, also plays in the Pro Kabaddi League and is a defender. One of his brothers still works as a farmer. Dharmaraj was born in Thiruchanampondi village of Thanjavur district. Apart from Tamil, he is well verse in Telugu language too, and it helped him a lot while playing for Telugu Titans in Pro Kabaddi League.

 

Gold medals in the World Cup, Asian Games and South Asian Games are some of his milestones in his long Kabaddi career. The veteran defender also won gold for India in Beach Kabaddi in the Asian Beach Games in 2010. He currently works in Indian railways, and has represented railways till national level matches. He is one of the senior most members of his team and hence referred to as "Anna" by fellow players. He has a total of 151 points from 59 games he played for three teams in Pro Kabaddi League.
