Devendran Biography 
Rabi Devendran, shortly called Devendran is a music composer associated with Tamil cinema. Kannukkul Nooru Nilava of Vedham Pudhithu (1987) is his most memorable melodious song. Aankalai Nambathey, Balu Thambi Manasile, Munnar, Naanum En Jamunavum, Mannukkul Vairam and Mudhal Payanam are other noted works. Naanum En Jamunavum – released in 2012 is his latest work.
He was born and brought up in Vadakarai, near Srivilliputhur. He took lessons in Carnatic and Hindustani music under Sivagiri, Seema Durai and Madhusoodhanan respectively and also learnt Western music under Thompson. Then he worked as a music teacher at a school in Thiruvottiyur before entering film field. Once Sundararajan happened to attend a school function in which some students performed on the songs composed by Devendran. The director was very much impressed by his work and announced that Devandran would work with him for the next movie. But the project got delayed. His first released movie was Mannukkul Vairam, produced by Kovai Thambi. He used one of the tunes he composed for the school function with slight variations. Pongiyadhey kadhal vellam – became a popular song of his debut movie. Mannukul Vairam – was the project announced by actor-director R. Sundarrajan and it got released after that.
Kannukkul nooru nilava….Idhu oru kanava for Bharathiraja’s movie, Vedham Pudhithu still remains the most memorable song of this music composer. When he composed the song at first, the director asked him to rework on it and as time was too short, he could make only small modifications and was finally approved by the director. The romantic song beautifully pictured on Amala and Raja was sung by S. P. Balasubrahmanyam and K. S. Chithra and penned by Vairamuthu. ‘Kadhal kayangaley….Neengal aarungalen’ is another evergreen song composed by this music director.
