Devdutt Pattanaik Biography

Devdutt Pattanaik is a mythologist and author whose works are focused on mythology. He is a physician turned leadership consultant and author who has published books like ‘Myth = Mithya: A Handbook of Hindu Mythology’, ‘The Pregnant King’, and ‘Jaya: An Illustrated Retelling of the Mahabharata’. He is also a columnist of MiD DAY newspaper and the chief belief officer of Future Group. He co-hosted the television show, Business Sutra, alongside Maneka Doshi in CNBC - TV 18. He is also a story consultant to STAR Television.

 

He was bron and brought up in Chembur, Mumbai. He was born in the year 1970. He took M.B.B.S degree from Grant Medical College, Mumbai and subsequently did a course in Comparative Mythology from Mumbai University. He worked in the pharma and healthcare industry for 14 years before he completely shifted to writing books on mythology. He also delivers on the subject of mythology and has worked as a consultant at Ernst and Young. He was a speaker at the first TED conference in India held in November 2009.

 

On August 2010, he was invited by the ICCR to Colombia where he presented a paper at a conference on "Subjective World or Mythology of Identity" which illustrated the cultural differences between East and West. As an author his other works include - Book of Kali, The Man Who Was A Woman and other queer tales of Hindu lore, 7 Secrets From Hindu Calendar Art, Hanuman's Ramayan, The Goddess in India: the five faces of the eternal feminine and The Book of Ram. Devon Ke Dev... Mahadev – the popular mythological television series telecasted on Life OK about the life of Lord Shiva is inspired by the research works of this mythologist.
