Deepika Kamaiah Biography

Deepika Kamaiah is an Indian model turned actress. She has appeared in south Indian movies as well as Bollywood. Kamaiah was one of the finalists in the Femina Miss India South beauty pageant in 2009. She debut big screen with Tamil film, Aanmai Thavarael in 2011. She has done a cameo appearance in 2013 hit movie of Shahid Kapoor, Phata Poster Nikla Hero. In 2013, she debut Kannada film industry with Auto Raja and her upcoming Kannada projects are Neene Bari Neene and Devaravne Bidu Guru. Her first major role is Kannada movie, Chingari released in 2012.

She was born and brought up in Bangalore and started her modelling career at the age of 16, while studying in class 11. Yet modelling didn’t affect her studies and she carried both smoothly. She had pre-decided that she would become a graduate before completely entering the entertainment industry. During her modelling days, she was offered the Tamil film Anmai Thavarael, directed by Kulandai Velappan. Then she got a call from choreographer-director Harsha to give a screen test for a role in Chingari. She won it and thus received her first major role of her career. She was paired opposite 'Challenging Star' Darshan in this movie. She played the role of a young girl in this movie which suited her a lot.

In 2013, she played a village girl’s role in Rajkumar Santoshi’s commercial hit, Phata Poster Nikla Hero which stars Shahid Kapoor and Ileana D'Cruz. It happened to be her Hindi debut too. Her role lasted only for a few minutes, yet marked her Bollywood debut. She was comfort in playing this cameo role as she sees it as the stepping stone to Bollywood.
