Dawood Ibrahim Biography

Dawood Ibrahim Kaskar is the leader of Indian organized crime syndicate D-Company founded in Mumbai. He was No. 3 on the Forbes' World's Top 10 most dreaded criminals list of 2011 and the most wanted criminal of India’s criminal list, particularly after the 1993 Mumbai bombings. He has been accused for Cheating, Criminal Conspiracy and Organised Crime Syndicated and he has been always in the news for one reason or another for more than two decades or so. Most recently a warrant was issued by Indian court for sport fixing crime in the Indian Premier League.

 

It’s believed that he has close relationship with many celebrities of Bollywood in Mumbai and his links with Bollywood has always been a matter of fantasy and a topic for many movies. Once Upon a Time in Mumbai (2010) directed by Milan Luthria was also based on the lives of real-life gangsters Haji Mastan and Dawood Ibrahim. Emraan Hashmi portrayed his role while Ajay Devgan portrayed the role of Haji Mastan in this movie. Many movies like Black Friday (2004), Shootout at Lokhandwala (2007), Jannat (2007), D-Day (2013), Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Dobaara! (2013) and Shootout at Wadala (2013) have been loosely based on his life.

 

He was born on 27 December 1955 in Mumka of Ratnagiri district, Maharashtra. Ibrahim was believed to control much of the hawala system as well as the master mind behind the plot of the Ramana link in the March 1993 Mumbai Bombings. In 2003, the Indian and US declared him a "Global Terrorist". According to US reports, he had close relationship with al-Qaeda's Osama Bin Laden. An attempt was made to freeze his assets around the globe as well as crack down on his operations.

 

In 1986, cricketer Dilip Vengsarkar claimed that he entered Indian cricket team’s dressing room and promised every player a car if they defeat Pakistan in Sharkah Cup final. Ibrahim's daughter, Mahrukh Ibrahim, is married to the son of Pakistani cricketer Javed Miandad.
