Datta Walvekar Biography 
Datta Walvekar was a singer and composer of Marathi language. He was born on March 30, 1928 in Belgaon. He was popularly known as ‘Master Datta’ during 1950’s. Datta has also been active in theater and has worked as a stage actor in a few plays as well. Babanrao Nawdikar, Govind Kurwalikar and Kumudini Pednekar were his contemporary singers. He published his autobiography titled “ Pushpavin Kalpataru” in 2007. “Kshatra Boli” was his second book. Datta was awarded Ph. D. by University of Pune in 1976, for his Research on Khatri Language. He completed his research work under the guidance Dr. R. S. Walimbe. He has received Life Time Achievement award by All India Marathi Literary Meet in Pune in 2003 and All India Marathi Theatre meet at Karad in 2006.
Master Datta came to Karad during 1940’s and very soon, he got attached to theatre plays. He has been associated with gatherings that have been known by the name, ‘Melas’ then. Gradually he started singing as well. He initiated singing for dramas at the age of 14. Those social and cultural platforms, known then by the name, Mela helped to improve his singing talent a lot. He imitated Gajanan Watve during his initial stage of singing. As an actor, Datta has appeared as a stage actor in popular plays of many leading play directors like Pralhad Keshav Atre, Gajanan Digambar Madgulkar and Bapurao Mane. A few such plays are “Yudhdhachya Sawlya” and “Lagnachi Bedi”.
Datta has composed music for many musicals for Radio stations. He has been associated with religious festivals like Ganesh festivals, Navaratri celebrations etc. Datta Walvekar also served in Public Works Department of Government of Maharashtra. He has also worked as a faculty in Brihan Maharashtra College of Commerce, Pune.
