Darsheel Safary Biography

Darsheel Safary is a very popular child artist of Bollywood cinema. He is most popular for Aamir Khan’s directorial debut, Tare Zameen Par. He played the role of dyslexic child in the movie released in the year 2007 and won Filmfare nomination for best actor too. It was for the first time in the history of Filmfare when a child artist was nominated for best actor category and he was only 9 years old then! He won Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actor that making it a unique record by winning it at 9 years old. His performance surprised both the critics as well as film viewers and often praised as a mysterious kid with excellent acting skills. His tooth also became the trade mark of the character played by him in the movie. It was his debut movie too.

Safary was discovered by script writer, Amol Gupte during late 2006 when he was in search of a male lead for his film, Taare Zameen Par. Already the script writer had conducted hundreds of auditions in search of film's protagonist Ishaan Nandkishore Awasthi. He found Safary at Shaimik Davar’s dancing school, "Summer Funk". In the audition held at dancing school, young Darsheel stole the heart of Amol Gupte with his naughty looks eventually winning the leading actor role. He proved it right too, giving a performance that surprised everyone. The whole movie was on his shoulders and he carried the role smoothly with less effort. Aamir Khan played his teacher’s role. Yet it was young Safary who got huge applause from everyone and the movie was declared super hit.

His next movie was Bumm Bumm Bole released in the year 2010. The movie was directed by Priyadarshan. He played the role of Pinu who tries his level best to win second prize for a race so that he can give a pair of shoes to his sister. Similar to Taare zameen par, this movie was also heart touching. In 2011, the movie – Zokkomon was released. He played the role of orphan Kunal abandoned by his heartless uncle, Anupam Kher. Midnight’s Children directed by Deepa Mehta is his latest release.
