Darshan Kumar Biography

Darshan Kumar is a talented actor associated with theater and Bollywood known for playing Priyanka Chopra’s husband in his debut flick, Mary Kom, one of the major hits of the year 2014. The actor also gave a powerful performance in Anushka Sharma-starrer NH 10 in 2015. He played the role of Satbir in the film. Darshan is to play the pivot role of Khalid Pervaiz, a Pakistani lawyer in Omung Kumar’s much-talked about biopic Sarbjit starring Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Randeep Hooda in the lead roles. Darshan plays the real life role of the lawyer who strives his best to free Sarbjit from Pakistani jail. Darshan has also appeared in a couple of television roles.

Darshan Kumar was born and brought up in Delhi. He has a strong theatre background with experience of more than 10 years. He has been a theatre artist before his debut to television and cinema. He moved to Mumbai at the age of 24, where he worked with Sahej theatre group for five years, followed by Motley Productions of Naseeruddin Shah, where he was associated with for next 10 years. He also appeared in the television serials - Devon Ke Dev...Mahadev as Shukrachary and Baba Aiso Varr Dhoondo as Mridang Lall playing supporting roles.

The film for which he first gave an audition was NH 10. However Mary Kom got released one year prior to NH 10. His screen presence was well praised by critics for both these roles and both the films met with critical and commercial success. Soon after the release of Mary Kom, its director Omung Kumar gave him the second offer through the biopic – Sarbjit. The director was so much impressed by Darshan’s performance in Mary Kom that he decided to give him a meaty role in his next flick.
