Darshan Jariwala Biography

Darshan Jariwala is a film, television and theatre artist who concentrates most on Gujarati. He is also known as a popular Bollywood and Hindi television character artist. He won the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor for ‘Gandhi, My Father’ in 2007. He portrayed the role of Mahatma Gandhi in this critically well acclaimed movie. As a character artist, his most noted Bollywood movies are Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd., Guru, Gandhi, My Father, Rajneeti, Halla bol, Kahaani, Aarakshan, Rowdy Rathore, Joker, F.A.L.T.U, Rakta Charita, Aap Kaa Surroor - The Real Luv Story, Style, Rang Rasiya, Superstar, What's Your Raashee? and Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani. He is married to character artist and film personality, Apara Mehta. They are living separately now, though not completed divorce procedures. The couple has a daughter, Khushali.

Darshan Jariwala was born on September 29, 1957 as the son of veteran Gujarati actress Leela Jariwala. He worked as television artist as well as supporting actor of movies, aside his theatre work. His noted Gujarati plays include - Hatheli Par Baat Baaki, Patro Mitro, Mulraj Mansion and Andhalo Pato. He has also performed in English play, Going Solo 2 and Hindi play, Uncle Samjha Karo. One of his most remembered television roles is Gujarati TV serial, Narasimha Mehta.

Darshan Jariwala married Apara Mehta in 1980 at a younger age. Darshan was doing character roles and stock broking at that time. After 22 years, they got parted due to difference in opinions. Though they have not divorced yet, it’s the end of their relationship, Darshan has told media that he is waiting for the completion of procedures so that he can move ahead and concentrate on to his career.

Though Darshan Jariwala worked in many movies, it was Gandhi, My Father’ that helped him to grab international attention. Due to date problems, he didn’t accept the role first. Yet, its director Feroz Abbas Khan waited for him to get the right person for the role. Thus Darshan accepted the role. As a character artist, he is known for comic roles as well.
