Danny Denzongpa Biography

Danny Denzongpa is an actor of Bollywood who handles both negative roles as well as character roles. This Indian actor of Sikkimese-Bhutia descent and has given numerous nice characters to remember. He has also starred in many International projects including Hollywood movies. Most memorable work is Seven Years in Tibet where he acted alongside Hollywood actor Brad Pitt. He has received Padma Shri, fourth highest civilian honour of India. Among the roles enacted by this actors, his roles in December 16, Ashoka, Sanam Bewafa, Barsaat, Krantiveer, Vijaypath, Devtaa, Ageepath, Kanoon kya karega, Khuda gawah and Hum are noted most.

 

Danny Denzongpa has won supporting actor award at Filmfare in the consecutive years, 1992 and 1993 for the movies – Sanam bewafa and Khuda gawah. He has won three more nominations for the movies - Devtaa, Ageepath and Kanoon kya karega. He has been nominated for best villain 5 times for the movies - Barsaat, Krantiveer, Vijaypath, Hum and Ghatak, though he couldn’t win at least once.

 

Danny Denzongpa was born to a Buddhist family in the Kingdom of Sikkim on February 25, 1948. During childhood days, Danny loved horses and horse riding a lot. He nursed an ambition to join the Indian Army. He has won the Best Cadet award from West Bengal and has participated in the Republic Day parade once.  But destination was something else and he joined the industry during early 70’s. He started his career with B Grade movies. His distinct looks and powerful voice helped him to get a lot of powerful roles in Bollywood. Yet he had to study Hindi in the beginning.

 

His first major role was in B.R.Chopra’s Dund released in the year 1972. Before that he got his break through Mere Apne. Very soon, Danny was appreciated as a popular villain of Bollywood. His looks helped him a lot in his career too. His most memorable films during 70’s and 80’s include – Andhar Bahar, aandhi toofan, Kalicharan, Kala Sona, Bhagavan Dada, Yateem and Fakira. His major movies during 90’s and later include – Vijaypath, Agnipath, Hum, parwane, Army, Himalay Putra, rajkumar (1996), dharthiputra, 1942-A love story and Shikaar. He has also worked in Rajnikanth’s Ethiran (Robert) as the main villain.
