D Subbarao Biography 
Duvvuri Subbarao (born on 11 August 1949), is an Indian Economist, Central Banker and Civil Servant. He was the 22nd Governor of Reserve Bank of India, served under Prime Minister Dr.Manmohan Singh. He currently lives in Singapore and is a distinguished visiting faculty at National University of Singapore. Dr. D. Subbarao is a 1972 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of Andhra Pradesh cadre. He was appointed as the Governor of RBI on 5th September 2008 succeeding Y. Venugopal Reddy. His term endsed in September 2011. But Prime Minister’s office has extended his tenure up to 4th September 2013.
He was born on 11th August 1949 in Eluru in West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh. He studied at Sainik School in Korukonda in Andhra Pradesh and got his graduation in Physics from Indian Institute of Technology at Kharagpur. He received Director’s Gold Medal for his academic excellence. He then continued his eduation at IIT Khanpur and finished his masters degree in physics.
He was the topper of the IAS examination held in 1972. He got MS degree in economics from Ohio State University in United States and was a Humphrey Fellow at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He got his doctorate degree by completing his Ph. D in economics from Andhra University. He married Urmila and has two sons.
He was appointed as the joint secretary of Department of Economics Affairs in Ministry of Finance in Government of India. He served in this position from 1988 to 1993. Then he was made as the Finance Secretary of Government of Andhra Pradesh. He was in this position until 1998. He served as the lead economist in the World Bank from 1994 to 2004. After completing this, he was made as the member of the Economic Advisory Council of Prime Minister in 2005. He was made as the Finance Secretary of Central Government in 2007.
