Chitra Ramakrishna Biography 
Chitra Ramkrishna is the managing director & chief executive officer of the National Stock Exchange of India Ltd. (NSE). This executive is known for her reforms and wants to retain the startup culture of her early days, which has pushed NSE to new heights. Currently NSE is world's third-largest bourse by number of trades and also the leader in India with a major market share of 82%. Associated with NSE from its scratch, she has played a vital role in developing and implementing major changes in the system.
Born in 1963, she started her career as a Chartered accountant. She joined the finance division of IDBI Bank in 1985, marking her new beginning in the corporate sector. After a short stint with SEBI, she returned to IDBI once again. During this time she worked in various departments including treasury and fixed income departments, and later moved to Marketing department. It was her strategy to issue deep discount bonds which became a major success and earned appreciation from top level. RH Patil, executive director of IDBI also complimented her work during her younger ages.
Later she became one among the five chosen members by SS Nadkarni, who was then IDBI chairman, to set up NSE from scratch. Thus her association with NSE began during its formative years itself and she has witnessed all minor and major changes of this sector, being associated with it. She was one among the members who formulated a fully automated, screen-based trading system, apart from her involvement in setting market regulation and policy making, long before NSE achieved its correct form and figure. Over the years, financial and the corporate sector in India recognized Chitra Ramkrishna as an institution builder and a great leader. She is only the third woman to head an Exchange in the Asia-Pacific region.
