Chetan Kumar Biography

Chetan Kumar is a young actor of Kannada cinema. He debut film industry in the year 2007 with hit film Aa Dinagalu, for which he received Udaya Film Awards for the Best debut actor. He is a theater artist also and has worked in several Kannada plays. Sethu Maadhavana Sallaapa and Sooryasthadinda Sooryodayadavarage, both staged in 2006 are his noted plays. Chetan was born on 24 February 1984 in Chicago, US. He came to India in 2006 after receiving Fulbright Scholarship. Birugaali, Suryakanthi, Dashamukha and Mynaa are his Kannada movies. He has received formal training in Carnatic music and has learnt jazz on the saxophone also. He performs both these art forms on stage as well.

Chetan Kumar was born in US to Indian parents. He did his primary education at Marist High School followed by South Asian Studies with an Emphasis on Comparative Theater Studies. His graduation was completed at Yale University, US in 2005. The following year he came to India after receiving Fulbright Scholarship. He became associated with Kannada theater during 2006. He acted in two Kannada plays Sethu Maadhavana Sallaapa and Sooryasthadinda Sooryodayadavarage with Bangalore-based theater group Vistara. As a stage performer, he performs modern dance, mono acting and instrumental. Since college days, he has choreographed many stage shows and performed on stage as well. He performs in Carnatic music as well as saxophone.

Chetan entered film industry playing lead role in director K. M. Chaitanya's debut directorial venture Aa Dinagalu in 2007. The movie was not only a hit, but also garnished Chetan with critics’ acclaim. He laso received Udaya film awards for best debutant male. His second noted role was for the movie, Birugaali. He has also appeared in guest role in Raam, released in 2009.
