Changampuzha Krishna Pillai Biography

Changampuzha Krishna Pillai was a Malayalam poet from Kerala in India. He was popular for his romantic elegy Ramanan which he wrote in 1936 and this had sold over 100, 000 copies. This is a play written in the form of verse and this remained as a best seller. This poem was based on the life of friend of Changampuzha’s Edappally Raghavan Pillai.

He was born on 11th October 1911 at Edappally, Ernakulam. He studied at the Government Upper Primary School at Edappally. His poetical works include Ramanan, Vaazhakkula, Divyageetham, Devageetha, Bashapanjali, Spandikkunna Asthimaadam, Rekthapushpangal, Madirolsavam, Padunna Pisachu. Kalithozhi and Katharathnamalika are some of his proses.

He died on 17th June 1948 at the age of 37. His tomb is maintained by the Cochin Corporation and Greater Cochin Development Authority. The area of his tomb belongs to his maternal family property. Few lines from his poem Spandikkunna Asthimadom was inscribed on his tomb. The lines that are written on it are:

My biggest failure,

Is having an honest heart,

In this faulty world.

At his birth place Edappally, the two institutions, Changampuzha Smaraka Grandhasala (Changampuzha Memorial Library) and Chamgampuzha Park are established in his memory.
