Buddhadev Das Gupta Biography 
Buddhadev Das Gupta is an accomplished sarod player from Bengal. For his contributions to Indian music, he was awarded with Padma Bhushan in 2012. His autobiography Bamaner Chandrasparshavilash is very famous and has been serialized in a Bengali Magazine "Disha" before it was published as a book in two volumes in 2004 and 2010. The book was a bestseller. He is also a great guru in sarod who give emphasis to teach students even minute things in detail. Noted sarod player and music director Abanindra Maitra is one among his successful students.
Buddhadev Das Gupta was born on 1 February 1933 in Bhagalpur, Bihar in his maternal home. He was born into a family with music tradition. Mohammed Amir Khan (1873-1934) and Radhika Mohan Mairta (1917-1981) belong to his family. His father Prafulla Mohan Dasgupta was a Bengali who was District Magistrate by profession. His younger brother Arabinda Dasgupta later came to be known as Dilshad Khan, a famous Hindustani vocalist and composer from Bengal. Dilshad is married to prominent Hindustani singer Parveen Sultana of ‘Hume Tumse Pyar Kitna’ fame. Thus Buddhadev is the brother-in-law of this great singer. His father is an avid lover of music though didn’t take formal lessons. Thus he was brought up in a music atmosphere.
Buddhadev learnt music lessons from Radhika Mohan Maitra. He performed in AIR as a guest for the first time and after that he has performed in more than 17 national programs. He was excellent in academics too. Completed matriculation in 1948 with second rank, later he completed Mechanical Engineering from Bengal Engineering College, Shibpur. In 2010 the institution honoured him with a honorary doctorate. In 2011 he rejected Padma Shri given by Government of India and the following year he was awarded Padma Bhushan.
