Buddhadeb Guha Biography

Buddhadeb Guha is a popular Bengali fiction writer known for his short stories and novels. He is a nature lover who loves forests and he provides nature backgrounds for most his novels. Dreamy abstractness and romantic appeal are other characteristics of his works. He is the recipient of numerous prestigious awards including Ananda Puraskar in 1976 for his novel, Halud Basanta apart from Shiromani Puraskar and Sharat Puraskar. The Library of Congress has over fifty titles by him. Guha’s most celebrated work - Madhukori is considered as a milestone in Bengali literature. He is a chartered accountant by profession, and a musician too.

Guha hails from Kolkata, West Bengal. He was born on June 29, 1936. His graduation was done at St Xavier's College of the University of Calcutta. He is a successful chartered accountant by profession. His younger days were spent in different parts of West Bengal as well as present day Bangladesh. He has many childhood friends from Bangladesh and those childhood days later inspired him to write many books in Rivu series. He also wrote many works on forest life. His celebrated novel, Madhukori is believed to be based on his real life and this work is incomplete.

A man with different shades, apart from being a renowned writer, he is a nature lover, hunter, musician and chartered accountant. He owns an urban life style. Guha is a great Ranbindra Sangeet singer. Ananda Puraskar, Shiromani Puraskar and Sharat Puraskar are major honours received by him. Jaoya-Asa, Jongli Mohol, Bonobasar, Aainar Samne, Banjoytsnai, Sabuj Andhakare, Babli, Hajarduari, Charkanya, Ilmorander Deshe, Sabinay Nibedan, Riya, Bangri Poshir Doo Rattir, Sharaswata Sera baro Sogotokti, Pakhsat, Ektu Ushnatar Jonno, Gunja Phuler Mala, Halud Bosonto and Jagmogi are some of his major works.
