Brajanath Ratha Biography

Brajanath Ratha is a popular Oriya writer from Orissa. He received Orissa Sahitya Akademi Award in 1984 for "Manara Manachitra" (poetry collection). He is an internationally recognized writer. Vishuba Silver jubilee Award in 1974, 1st Tagore Literature Awards in 2010, Vishuba Award in 1997, Gokarnika Award in 1999, Punarnaba Anadi-Ananta Kabita Award in 2002, First Shudramuni Sahitya Award in 2009 and Kabishekhar Chintamani Award in 1995 are the major awards received by him. Samanya Asamanya and Manara Manachitra are his noted works and his literary works belong to philosophical, progressive and satire genre too. Biswa-Tara Gabesana Gaara, a library was founded by this great writer.

Brajanath Ratha was born on January 12, 1936 at Sunhat, Balasore. As a kid, Ratha had a habit of collecting books and later this habit prompted him to establish a library. His first poem was written to welcome India’s independence in 1947. His first published collection of poems was Marugolap (1960). His touching words are simply illustrated thus placing him among the most popular Oriya poets. A few of his published poetry works include - Nijaswa Sanlap, Nishabda Pratibad, Sabhyatara Munha, Manara Manachitra, He Mahajibana!, Laghu Sataka, He Mora Swadesh!, Gadigadi Gali Ball, Swanirbachita Kabita, Samayara Shabdalipi, Samanya Asamanya and Samanya Asamanya.

Apart from numerous awards received, he has also received many honours. He has been honoured by South Korea's Ambassador, from Global Cooperation Society International, Seol for his contribution in World welfare, Cooperation and Services. He also received Orissa Sahitya Academy Award for Manara Manachitra to the Silver Jubilee Award for poetry by Prajatantra Prachar Samiti, Cuttack. Sarala Smaraka Samman, Dasharathi Pattnayak Library Trust Samman, Shriparna Samman, Kalahandi Samman and Vishuba Samman are other major awards received by him.
