Bipin Chandra Pal Biography

Bipin Chandra Pal was an Indian freedom fighter. Lala Lajpat Roy and Bala Gangadhara Tilak are his contemporaries that this trio was called as Lal Bal Pal. He was born on 7th November 1858 in Poil village of Sylhat district in British India. He was also an orator and writer and a member of Brahmo Samaj. He protested against social evils and caste system that he was aptly called as the Father of Revolutionary Thoughts and as Mightiest Prophet of Nationalism by Aurobindo.

 

His father was Ramchandra Pal. He joined Presidency College in Calcutta but he could not complete his education. He became a headmaster later on and also worked as a librarian in Calcutta public library. He married a widow of belonging to higher caste. He supported passing the Age of Consent Bill in 1891. He went to England in the year 1898 to study comparative ideology.

 

When he was 22 years old he started the weekly journal Paridaashak. He also served as the Tribune in Lahore. In the year 1901 he founded the English weekly named India the daily Bande Mataram in 1906. As he showed his protest through his writings this was banned by the British Government.

 

He had to spend his time in exile in London from 1908 to 1911. During this time he started the weekly Swaraj. He took part in the Bombay session of the Congress in 1904. When the British government asked him to provide evidence against Sri Aurobindo in the Bande Mataram Sedition case, he refused and so he was arrested and imprisoned for six months.

 

Together with other freedom fighters he showed his opposition by boycotting the goods manufactured in Britain and by burning the Western clothes. His son Niranjan Pal was one of the founders of Bombay Talkies. He died on 20th May 1932.
