Binu. S Biography

Binu. S is a promising young director of Malayalam film industry who shot to fame with his debut film – Itihaasa in 2014. The fantasy film starring Shine Tom Chacko and Anushree emerged as a sleeper hit. The movie was well praised by critics, especially for its humour element. In 2016 his second movie – Style was released. With all masalas of a commercial entertainer, the movie starring Unni Mukundan, Tovino Thomas and Priyanka Kandwal received average reviews from critics as well. The movie included many ingredients of Tamil and Telugu movies, and its song picturisation, cinematography and background score were well praised. The film was also noticed for its impressive performance by its lead and supporting actors.

Binu has been a still photographer and ad filmmaker, before he made his debut flick – Itihaasa. He was encouraged a lot by his friends to direct one movie and that’s how he got into film direction. At first he thought of a big film. But later he decided to start off with a low budget film. Except the script and a few encouraging friends he had nothing to start off. Though he had a fine script on body swapping, it was not easy for him to get a producer. Many actors too turned down the role, as they felt less scope in the roles. The movie was scripted by Anil Narayanan of Matinee and Mani Ratnam fame.

Finally he roped in Shine Tom Chacko and Anushree to play the lead roles. Its comic element and fresh script were well liked by audience and critics. A film with no big stars, no big budget and an unbelievable story became a sleeper hit. Binu says that he used to closely observe people and has understood what makes then laugh. He wants to be known as the common man's director. With his debut flick, he proved that script is the real star of a movie.
