Bhavatharani Biography

Bhavatharani is a National award winning playback singer of Tamil cinema. She is a noted music composer also. She is the daughter of Ilaiyaraaja, great Indian composer of film music. Her brothers are the noted film composers Karthik Raja and Yuvan Shankar Raja. She was awarded the National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer in 2001 for her rendition of the song "Mayil Pola Ponnu Onnu" from the film Bharathi. The music was composed by none other than her father.

As a music director, her compositions include - Mitr, My Friend, Amirtham, Avunaa, Geeya Geeya and Phir Milenge of different languages including English and Hindi. Porida Pazhagu and vellachi are yet to release. Bhavatharini made her debut as a singer in Raasaiya which was marked successful. Later she tried her luck in private albums as well, composed by her father and brothers. It also proved successful.

As a music director, her first movie was National award winning movie – Mitr, My friend. The movie was directed by Revathi and Shobana played lead role, for which she won her second National award for best actress. Her second movie as a music director was Telugu movie – Avunaa. She composed the songs of Revathi’s Phir milenge too. The movie based on the theme of AIDS, that starred Shilpa Shetty, Abhishek Bachchan and Salman Khan in the lead.

As a singer, a few of her noted songs include – karthikai thirunaal of Sree, Butterfly butterfly of Pacha kuthira, Thithithai thalam of My dear kutichathan and Saibaba of Shiridi Nayaga. She has rendered her voice for a few Malayalam songs in her father’s compositions. My dear Kuttichathan, Kaliyoonjal and Ponmudipuzhayorathu are a few such. Her hit Tamil songs are included in the movies, Goa, Azhaki, Friends, Uliyin asai and Azhagai Irukkirai Bayamai Irukkirathu.
